The Earth that gives life, the Earth that gives rhythm to the seasons, the Earth whose landscapes we contemplate with wonder is at the heart of this first concert of the “Four Elements” weekend. It dictates the sequence of the months in Fanny Mendelssohn’s melancholic Das Jahr. It is the Earth which generates the gardens of which the poet dreams in Marguerite Canal’s Jardin de l’infante, or Jeanne Leleu’s L’Arbre plein de chants. It offers the landscapes that we contemplate while traveling, immersed in nature, with Louise Héritte-Viardot. Finally, inspired by an oriental folklore that has more to do with fantasy than with reality, Armande de Polignac’s Mille et Une Nuits are an invitation to travel the Earth and dream.
